Garden in Filtry
The garden surrounds a historical city villa in the centre of Warsaw. With many big openings to the garden and several terraces and balconies the project was thought as a lively painting to be observed from within the house.
Several “frames” were chosen and designed with particular attention to the compositions that is created throughout the season. The “open plan” of the vegetation area allows for free wanderings and creates secluded niches in this fairly small city garden. Time has become a crucial design parameter – the living composition changes between seasons and over the longer perspective of several decades. This transformation is driven not only by carefully selected plant species with extended periods of attractiveness but also by finishing materials and flooring, chosen with consideration for how they will age over time.

The front garden serves as the entrance zone and faces north. It is proposed to introduce climbing plants on the existing fence, along with plantings of trees, shrubs, and perennials near the house to screen interior views from the street. The greenery is freely integrated into a gravel surface.
The designed focal point is the main garden, located to the south. Access to the gate in the newly designed wooden fence has also been provided. Subtle details are proposed, such as a staircase from the terrace with a “sculptural” railing, a concrete “doormat” at the rear gate, and a pathway surface connecting the front garden with the main garden.
