Planet Lem
Our project for the Centre for Literature and Language – Planet Lem was awarded the first prize in the architectural and urban development competition.
The competition task was to propose the revitalization of the historic Salt Depot building from 1787, located in the Zabłocie district. In addition to adapting the existing structure, we were required to design its expansion, envision its surroundings, and plan the integration of a multifunctional literary center – a modern cultural institution with an international reach.
The original stable structure has been replicated and extended across the entire site, weaving through garden spaces and creating a sense of endless continuity. The overall form of the complex is defined by the preserved Salt Warehouse, accompanied by towering elements resembling periscopes, which mark the site’s presence within Cracow’s urban landscape.

The undulating landscape creates a rich variety of spatial experiences within the outdoor gardens. Irregularly shaped mounds, though designed on a structured grid that reflects the disciplined geometry of the building’s interiors, evoke a sense of being in an entirely unique, almost otherworldly environment.
These sculpted hills invite visitors to sit, lounge, roll, observe, run up and down, and engage in countless spontaneous activities. Narrow, winding paths weave between the elevations, forming an informal network that encourages exploration. Hidden among the mounds, small water features and fine mist nozzles enhance the atmosphere of different courtyard zones, adding a sense of mystery and discovery.
